Investigations

Perhaps nothing is more challenging for a company or individual than facing the full force of prosecution by a governmental agency. We’re fortunate to have the resources and experience to help clients respond to these investigations — and conduct our own – in a highly discreet, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The firm relies on our in-house investigator to support the trial teams in both civil and criminal cases, and his 30 years of experience in law enforcement and corporate security is a real asset for our clients. This work often involves probing into allegations of various types of corporate or employee misconduct, the actions of corporate directors and executives, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Representative Cases
  • Burlington Resources

We represented Burlington Resources in a federal criminal investigation tied to the company’s calculation and payment of oil and gas royalties. For almost three years, we helped the company negotiate inquiries from the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Minerals Management Service. This matter concluded with a formal declination of charges by the U.S. Attorney in Wyoming.

  • Houston Community College System

Assisted the Board of Directors and the Chancellor’s Office concerning allegations of misconduct.

  • Houston Independent School District

Investigated allegations that Sharpstown High School representatives altered records concerning student dropout rates.

  • The Methodist Hospital

Assisted senior staff at The Methodist Hospital with various allegations against hospital personnel. We were able to successfully resolve these issues on behalf of the hospital and their personnel.

  • Olivo

Conducted due diligence to determine factual evidence regarding possible misappropriation of company funds.
